Would you like to meet her?

Today is my birthday and instead of receiving, I would rather give.  For this birthday, I decided to introduce our daughter to you...if you want to meet her.

So do you want to celebrate with me?

Do you want to meet her?

She's pretty cute and I want to share her with the world today.

OK, I'll stop drawing it out!  Her is our special gift...

OK, so that is a bit of a tease, but I cannot put her full picture online until she is legally ours so all of her identifiable features are covered.  Soon enough, I will be able to share a full picture of her, but until then, you can picture her little toes and pray for her by her new name.

Meiying Hope Pavlansky

Meiying means "beautiful flower" in Chinese and is a way to preserve part of her current name as well as hold on to her Chinese heritage.  We take naming our children seriously and spend a lot of time thinking over the meaning of the name and the power that name/meaning holds.  Sure, giving her a full "American" name would be easier on her at times, but we want her to be proud of her heritage and hold on to that special part of her...as her heritage is the only part of her past she has to hold on to.  Her Chinese heritage is something no one can take away from her...even if she is taken out of China.  We definitely want all of our children (adopted and bios) to embrace their heritage and culture...no matter where they are from.

Hope is her middle name and is a name that was heavily put on my heart during my miscarriage* back in September/October 2012...several months into the adoption journey.     I felt God was telling me to give this name to our next daughter...whether bio or adoptee.

The definition of hope is: to want something to happen or be true and think it could happen or be true.

While her current name means flower verse or poem, we know she isn't a thriving flower in her current situation.  Our HOPE is to provide her with what she needs (unconditional love, a family, a home, medical attention, support, nurturing...) to thrive, blossom, and bloom.  We want her to become Meiying, the beautiful flower we know God has called her to be; and we have HOPE that she will be.  She she will be rooted into our family with love and God will graft her into our family tree with His amazing grace.

*I will post a blog about that miscarriage, more on her name, and what God has shown me through that loss another day.

Jewelry Fundraiser

Here is a great way to help us raise some funds!  All of this jewelry is fair trade and supports multiple causes.  Everything is made in Kenya and literally helps to put food in the mouths of the artisans (widows and/or single, adoptive mothers) as well as their children.  Another portion of it goes to adoptive families in the U.S. to help offset the cost of the medical evaluation of their referral (usually around $200 each).  The last portion stays with us to help with our adoption costs.  The prices are set by The Sparrow Fund.

Please note all items were photographed in natural light and coloring will vary (in some items significantly) by types of light.

The scribbles of a five year old...

Awhile back, Courtlyn was required to sign a sibling agreement for our adoption agency.  It is a form that says she knowingly will have to share mommy and daddy as well as be kind and respect her sister.  While driving one day, I told her she was going to have to go over it with us and sign it, but we forgot to do it that day.  A few days later, she reminded me about the papers she needed to "sign" and ran to her room to get something to write with.  She returned with a purple crayon and I hesitated for a moment...then thought why the heck not.  She's five and five-year-olds write with crayons or markers or paint......sometimes food.  It is not an official adoption document so I truly didn't care if she wrote in crayon...plus I thought it would be way more memorable in purple crayon rather than boring black ink.  So we went over the agreement and she proudly wrote her name in her best penmanship crayongirlship.  And I love it!
I wish we were able to keep one of the originals, but we had to mail them back with the rest of the paperwork.  But something I love more came just after she signed that special paper.

With that same purple crayon, she began to write on a blank sheet of paper I love Y!!! S!!.  I watched as she wrote about her love for her sister...someone she has only seen a few pictures of.  Then, she began to draw her sister.  But she didn't stop there, she continued to draw Y!!! S!!'s new family and created our first family portrait.

I absolutely adore this drawing and will joyously hang this on one of our walls soon.  Jess was out of state when Courtlyn drew this so I sent him some pictures during the creation process.  I'm pretty sure he had misty eyes just like me.  And if you are curious, we are aged by the length of arm so Jess has the longest and Y!!! S!! has the shortest.  And our cat, Max, made it into the portrait as well.
